Set up in October 2004, Smallprint creates beautiful jewellery that captures children's fingerprints in silver. The jewellery is made from a product called precious metal clay (PMC), which allows babies' fingerprints to be taken on a piece of jewellery and then fired in a kiln to form solid silver.
The Newcastle and North Tyne franchise was set up in 2008 by Kate Grantham. In January 2011 after over 10 years as a Primary school teacher Claire Smith took the opportunity to continue the successful franchise.
In April 2019 Claire decided to move on to pastures new and the baton has been passed to myself. For the past few years I worked for Newcastle Hospital trust in their 0-19 service and prior to this worked in a children's day nursery.
I was lucky enough to have a piece of jewellery made by Kate which I still treasure and wear and have always been passionate about the brand. I am looking forward to having the pleasure of making bespoke pieces for both new and returning customers.
Smallprint Newcastle are proud supporters of CHUF AND Leo's neonatal charity.
CHUF raises vital funds for large and small pieces of equipment, facilities, aftercare, salaries and research. CHUF’s charitable activities however, go far beyond that of providing medical equipment and personnel. The Charity provides holistic care to the children by providing services and facilities that allow Heart Heroes to develop their skills and mature as any healthy child normally would.
Leo’s is parent-led, founded by a neonatal mum in memory of her son with the aim of caring for families who have spent time on a neonatal unit. There aim is to listen to what families need, and provide services that aim to improve their wellbeing and help them thrive. From counselling support for your mental health, to safe and friendly neonatal baby classes and support to aid your little ones’ development.
